SoFi Expands Offerings to Include Margin Trading for Members
Starting today, SoFi Invest, SoFi’s investing platform, will offer margin trading to members, the next step in our efforts to meet the needs of both new and experienced investors alike with our suite of tools. SoFi’s interest rates will be among the most competitive on the street, with a base rate of 3%.
Over the last two years, we have seen an influx of novice members looking to expand their repertoire of trading tools, as well as seasoned investors eager for more offerings on our platform. With the launch of margin trading at SoFi, we are allowing our members to conduct all their trading more simply and manage all their finances in one place, no matter their goals, strategies or experience level.
Given the risks involved with margin trading, we have instituted an approval process for interested members, which includes:
• Invest members must have a minimum of $2000 in account value (equity) as required by regulators.
• Invest members must also answer suitability questions to determine if using margin is appropriate for them.
Additionally, we have created resources for investors to better understand margin for themselves, including an article on the basics of margin trading (How Does a Margin Account Work?). We remain committed to educating all investors on how to get their money right, through investing, loans, budgeting and saving.
